Hi Sebastian and Victor! Since the beginning of your guys' career as Galavant, you've been through quite the musical journey. The two of you got your start in 2013 winning platinum in Sweden for the ever-so exhilarating house single 'Tonight.'
From then on, the world has seen you both release on labels Ministry of Sound and have seen you get signed to Ultra Music and Sony Music. With widely successful progressive house track 'World of Dreams,' 'Rule the World,' Michael Woods remix of 'Gold' and more, Galavant has been evolving and growing more with every release.
It's been told that you guys formed on kind of a whim in 2012, what was going through your minds the year the two of you won platinum in Sweden for 'Tonight?'
'Tonight' was our very first release and we just felt very honored to be able to release our music on a big label, Universal. It turned out people really liked what we created and it feels and felt like a true blessing.
Four years later, you guys have now released your eclectically pleasing house EP, Purple. Released through Armada Music's imprint Armada Trice, the extended play features four different tracks. From the future and tropical house sound of 'Purple Haze,' pop house vibes of 'Hey Mama' to the energy filled 'Youth,' there is a little something for every house lover.
What can you guys tell fans about the creativity involved in creating Purple?
Our taste in music is very wide and we wanted this to be heard in the EP. We ended up writing and producing the four tracks with very different influences. Purple is the result of a creative mayhem haha.
You guys released a few tracks from the EP ahead of schedule in the timespan of a month or so. One track particularly, 'Hey Mama' has already received a wide amount of support from EDM giants Martin Garrix, NERVO, Nicky Romero, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike amongst many others.
What was the inspiration behind tracks 'Hey Mama,' 'Falling' and what was it like working with the talented and strong female vocalists?
Two different tracks with very different inspiration, but we always want a strong hook/melody in everything we make, so that was what we were aiming for when creating these tunes. 'Hey Mama' and 'Falling' have the same vocalist, a natural talent named Dafina. We got noticed about her from a co-writer and we really loved her unique touch to both of the tracks. Its always amazing taking an instrumental, write top-lines and bring the track "alive," especially with a voice like Dafina's.
In addition to releasing music, you guys have also had the chance to perform at festivals such as Summerburst, Bråvalla and started your now six installments mix compilation series GALATONES, with Axwell's Where's the Party! Throughout Galavant's career, you guys have garnered general support from artists like David Guetta, Avicci, Daddy's Groove and more.
Between the two of you, what have been the most memorable experiences so far?
The most memorable experience would be playing and performing 'Tonight' on Summerburst. It was amongst the first liveshows we did and to be able to perform your own song in front of 40k+ people singing along is a sick feeling.
After a closer look, it's evident that you guys have achieved great things in a short amount of time. As Galavant, you're both always evolving and constantly focusing on newer and fresher sounds. Like many artists this time of year, I'm sure you both have been hard at work in the studio since 2017 has started.
What can you tell fans about what Galavant has in store for 2017 in terms of music and performances amongst other projects?
We have some very interesting collabs coming up and also a new single release just scheduled. When it comes to our performances, we will keep visting clubs and hopefully get more shows abroad!
Finally, I want to thank both of you for giving me a chance to speak with you on behalf of Edm Joy. With the already successful Purple EP and support from some of the scenes biggest artists, you guys are already headed in the right direction for 2017.
Make sure to show some support for Galavant and let's see where their journey takes them this year!
