Interview: VASSY

Hi VASSY! One of your latest tracks 'Nothing to Lose,' was released a few months ago and it has recently charted #1 on the Mediabase 24/7 Chart! Increasingly notable, you produced ‘Nothing to Lose‘ alongside co-producer and trance-techno legend Tiësto. This widely successful track fuses perfectly blended modern-day bassy house vibes with that of an 80's-esque feel that I’m sure fans all around the world are likely to enjoy.

As a track that you released through Musical Freedom and one that is once again driven by your always lovely and captivating vocals, I'm delighted to have a chance to speak with you on behalf of EDM Joy!

What was the most enjoyable part about producing this track alongside DJ, producer and friend Tiësto?

He's fun to work with, super relaxed and gives me allot of freedom to express myself how my heart desires. How can you not love working alongside T? He's the best, super easy going and chilled!!!

What were your guys' production process and experience together when developing the much enjoyable and danceable 'Nothing to Lose?'

We went back n' forth with our ideas. It was fun! We would give each other feedback, ideas and develop it more.

You've been releasing music for more than five years, getting a chance to work with other esteemed artists such as David Guetta, Showtek, KSHMR and more, whilist also releasing albums and performing all around the world. How has electronic music changed around you and how have you adapted your talented voice to the growing and ever-growing scene filled with a myriad of genres?

It's been a great ride so far! I have had the opportunity to work with allot of talented people and perform at the largest festivals in the world. I think my voice lends itself well to electronic music as i have a quirky soulful voice, but I try to just keep being me and not let the styles affect me too much in my writing process just to be as authentic as I can be so that it doesn’t coms across on the record that I’m forcing myself to be a certain way. I feel that if I just do me then no matter where music goes in bpms, drops, structures and sounds I can always be able to create something that feels right for me.

What has been your favorite part of your musical journey so far?

Hmmmm, performing at Tomorrowland & Ultra Festival, getting 2 IDMA Awards, going Double Platinum twice in a row on 2 records and having my first solo #1 on US Dance Radio.

Less than a month ago you released your most recent track, 'Cracked Wall' via Spinnin' Records in collaboration with Florian Picasso. What was it like working on 'Cracked Wall' with Picasso?

It was cool. We recorded it in LA and he finished it in Europe!

What is the road ahead for you VASSY, now that awareness of your vocals and production has become even larger since the epic 'Nothing to Lose' and 'Cracked Wall?'

You will be hearing more of me this year on the radio with new VASSY releases and a couple collabs. It's going to be an interesting year, 2017, for me, a different one.

Finally, as one of the world's most esteemed female vocalists in the electronic dance music scene, I must ask. What is your advice for the thousands of vocalists – female and male alike – that may want a chance to see success in their lives?

I'd say work hard, believe in yourself and don’t give up. Be self sufficient, put in the work and don't be afraid to do it all hands on. Wear the creative hat, the business hat, the accounting hat. the performer hat, the studio hat and so on!

Specifically, what along the way of your music journey has truly helped you find joy in what you do and helped you get to where you are today?

The end result of it, always get frustrated at first. To try and find that cool lyrics and so on, but then magic happens and it falls into place. Creating a great song is fun, therapeutic and sensorial. The experiences you have on stage and on the road, the FANS make you so happy and give you a reason to keep delivering. They give you your voice, they listen, they care, they are loyal and they love. So I show my love back and want to make new music to make them smile, cry, laugh and change. They inspire me and I want to inspire them….🙂

Thank you for giving me a chance to speak with you VASSY, cheers!
