A Little Bit About Rising Vocalist Aaron Richards And His Powerful Cover 'Numb'

Updated: Aug 31, 2020

Californian based singer, songwriter and budding producer Aaron Richards has undoubtedly become one of the biggest vocalists in the EDM soundscapes. After offering his latest Monstercat release 'Heartless' in collaboration with Dexter King, he unveiled six versions of 'Numb,' which included an a cappella version, three remixes and a short bonus track, this is one of his biggest reveals yet.

Recently relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, Aaron Richards is an artist that actually grew up living in California, as well as a variety of places like Portland, New York and Toronto, Canada. While moving made things hard for him during childhood, he did grow up to appreciate a range of genres like rock, classical music, experimental, R&B and a variety of sounds in the EDM scene amongst others.

Officially launching his career in 2015 with two track release This Heart of Mine alongside his Jack Ü cover, Aaron Richards would go on to start his journey with popular label Monstercat the following year. During that time, he unveiled ‘Synchronize’ with Hellberg, ‘Matches’ with Ephixa and Stephen Walking and ‘To Be Alive’ with Puppet. Nearing the end of 2016, he also garnered millions of streams through a deep house remix of his cover of The Weeknd’s ‘In The Night.’

After releasing covers, remixes and singles with inspirations from artists like Jonny Craig, System of a Down, John Mayer and The Weeknd to name a few, Aaron Richards is coming into his own style that is a unique blend of alt-pop and electronic elements with roots in late 2000s and early 2010s rock. Not only does he have a signature sound, but he is also an artist that strives to take control of his artistry and create music that is meaningful!

Of all bands, Linkin Park was one of the earliest groups to impact Aaron Richards as an artist during his childhood. With staples like Reanimation, Hybrid Theory and Meteora, the late Chester Bennington is part of why he is a singer today. Amidst the world's loss of one of the best singers in the music industry during 2017, Aaron decided to move on with creating a cover for Linkin Park's song' 'Numb.'

While Aaron Richards only revealed 'Numb' last month, he actually recorded the vocals for the song three years ago in 2017. As an artist that was a large part of his childhood memories, Aaron had actually planned to release his cover before Chester's death, but he decided to wait out of respect for the late Linkin Park vocalist and his family. Recording the cover made for an emotional session, but one worth sharing in 2020.

The 'Numb' collection includes a six track homage, spanning the original cover with producer Essenger, a clean a cappella, three remixes by producers Mr FijiWiji, Geino, October Child and a bonus intro track produced by one of Aaron's unnamed previous collaborators. With mastering done by Mr FijiWiji on the extended play, fans will be treated to clean alt-pop, chilled out drum n' bass ambient vibes, trap, future bass and cinematic-melodic energy.

An independent release under Aaron Richards' label Zeke's Vegan Funhouse, 'Numb' also features hand painted artwork by up and coming artist Jono Vengoechea, who has done public murals for the likes of Complex, Halsey and others. The album artwork for each Spotify track hints at the energy behind each song. If producers want to use the a cappella to make their own versions, they may be able to, but will need to contact Aaron via Instagram.

Looking to the future, Aaron Richards will continue stamping his digital footprint in the music industry as an independent artist. Not only does he plan to do more top-line vocals on various EDM tracks and create more originals with an alt-pop/electronic style, but fans can also expect a landmark cover of John Mayer's 'Slow Dancing In A Burning Room' alongside a self-produced music video! This next release may even be his best yet!
