A month ago, Ship Wrek released his Stranded EP. His first track on Stranded, 'Feelin Good,' has chilling vocals from vocalist, Veorra and provides a vibe that instantly draws you in. 'Feelin Good' has a trap and future bass sound that is destined to give every listener goosebumps. Before reviewing the track, we will see what producer himself had to say about his musical influences and his work with this fantastic vocalist.
What were your influences in creating this song and the collaboration with Veorra and how long have you been in the electronic dance music industry?
The vocals are from 'Feelin Good' by Nina Simone. The message of the vocals show that life has its ups and downs and you must continue to move forward and just live life. I've been producing for 4 years. Flume has influenced me into future bass initially and from there I've really enjoyed the style of Illenium and San Holo!
What is your label and what does it consist of?
I've been releasing under Ship Wrek for a year. My label is Swang Collective and it consists of trap and future bass.
Listening to 'Feelin Good,' this track sets the mood from the very beginning with a keyboard and a chilling entrance of Veorra singing sampled lyrics, "Birds flyin' high, you know how I feel. Sun in the sky, you know how I feel. Breeze driftin' on by, you know how I feel. It's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life for me."
Not only are these lyrics familiar, but they are iconic and with her vocals, completely hypnotizing. As listeners hear her singing, subtle piano notes are paired with finger snapping and drum kicks that give that trap feel people are familiar with. Calming ambient sounds are played and right before the drop, beautifully edited vocals are heard.
There are two quick drops, but both are capable of captivating your attention and making you want to listen to it again. By far, these are a couple of the hardest, most unique, and intense chill drops I have ever heard. As Veorra's vocals fade out, the drop hits. What drives this drop so heavily is the suspenseful and epic bass instrument played as the bass, while her edited vocals continue on giving us chills and a vibe that makes you want to begin dancing, close your eyes, and start nodding your head.
While 'Stranded' is only a little more than two minutes, it does everything a future bass and trap vibe needs. Ship Wrek and Veorra knew what they were doing when they sampled Simone's lyrics. Veorra's adaptation truly brought a new type of way to look back at memories of the past.
I would describe this as a trap with future bass, swing, and jazzy feels. If you are like me, you will probably repeat this song at least five times.
