Interview: W.Y.L.D.

Over 20 days ago, artist W.Y.L.D. released his first track through Spotted Records. Although this is his first released production, 'Demons' is already setting the stage for this musician to rise.

W.Y.L.D. is a progressive house musician coming out of Santa Barbara, California. Fortunately today, I had the chance to talk to the man himself and get a few words on his experience as a producer and the road ahead for him.

How long have you been producing electronic dance music?

It's been seven years now.

Wow, that's intriguing, what was your 7 years of producing like? Did you have a previous alias or was it more underground?

I was in a duo before, which was first called CreamyCookies, but then we switched our name to ARLO.

I see that W.Y.L.D. is at the moment progressive house, was the sound similar in CreamyCookies (ARLO) or was it different?

As the previous monikers, I was doing your standard progressive house music. Now I am approaching the genre with a fresh take. You can hear that with the different influences in 'Demons.' One of my first releases was on Protocol Recordings titled 'City Dreams,' which was a collaboration with Hats Off Tunes.

What are your goals for W.Y.L.D. in terms of genre? Do you intend to expand with other genres or are you going to continue with a signature fresh take on progressive house?

For the time being, I will continue with a fresh take on progressive house. I hope to reinvigorate the genre and breathe new life into it. I probably will release some different genres in the future, sparingly, but my heart will always be with progressive house.

Who are your musical influences and do you have any plans for anything new for the near future in terms of a single or EP?

Some of my musical influences are Sick Individuals, KSHMR and Afrojack. As for future plans: I just signed exclusively with Spinnin' Records, so expect a lot of cool things coming in the future.

Lastly, is there any symbolism behind your logo and name?

My actual name in Hebrew means "Lion of God." I wanted something that stayed true to who I am, but also represented the "fierceness" of my music to come. I'm aiming to build a community or "pride."

It was a pleasure getting a chance to chat with W.Y.L.D. and gain a greater insight about him as an artist. This track will surely be a great hit this summer.
