Artist, Wendell Hollis, coming out of Mccreary, Kentucky has been in the underground hip-hop scene rapping for about two years as WHOLLIS. He's released over ten original tracks and his sixteen track album, Lost and Found. Less than a month ago, he just released his latest track, 'Thoughts,' under SleepWalker Records.
The track starts off with a calming piano playing a beautiful melody, when after a few moments in, the beat picks up a little bit with a subtle drum hit, percussion sound, and bass guitar providing the bass-line. After WHOLLIS starts speaking a few lines, the song really begins with a guitar quietly playing and a fast drum set providing a heavier beat. With a little bit of fluctuation throughout the track with, the musicality of this underground hip-hop song is spot on.
After listening to this track a few times, I have to say my favorite part about 'Thoughts' is WHOLLIS' words. Not only is he a good rapper, but he speaks truth, with politically fueled lyrics about Trump's wall, Bernie's free college and Hillary hating us all, suggesting not voting may be the best decision.
From beginning to end, WHOLLIS speaks to us all on a level we can understand. The mixing and mastering by draws us in from the beginning and WHOLLIS keeps us listening with his thought out words.
